Jamie Dubyoski playing the sport he loves

The crowd goes wild as the Navy soccer team upsets Maryland in a 2-1 match on Monday, September 8th. And who was it to score the winning goal against the No. 10 ranked Terrapins you ask? None other than Jamie Dubyoski, our very own Mr. Dubyoski’s youngest son.

When asked how it feels to watch your son reach such great heights, Mr. Dubyoski humbly responds, “It’s an awesome feeling; and not because of my coaching, but to know that he had that drive in him since he was 5-years-old just makes everything exciting to watch.” Our Church History teacher had been mentoring and coaching his son through various club teams from the time he was a young child all the way up to high school. Mr. Dubyoski even finds time to attend most of his son’s games at Navy, which he considers a true privilege.

Jamie’s accolades range far and wide, for he was named NAAA Athlete of the Week after scoring back-to-back game winning goals early this September. However, the young man’s amazing accomplishments stem back to his high school career. Jamie was a three sport athlete at Loyola Blakefield High School, earning various all-conference and all-state awards for soccer, track and field and football. Mr. Dubyoski comments, “He is a gifted person, and uses those gifts well. He always gives 110%.”
Perhaps, all of us Sailors can learn a lesson from Jamie as we move forward in our lives. Never give up, put your best foot forward, for who knows what we may accomplish when we push ourselves to our limits.
